Starting off motivated

After our failed attempt to go to La Union's surfing area due to heavy traffic, we opted to watch the sunset in a resort located in Bauaung, La Union.
It was a long holiday. I, as a noble mother, planned to stay at home and do motherly chores. My husband, on the other hand, as outgoing as he is, decided to take us to the surfing area in the north, La Union. I was reluctant to support his idea since I was not really in the mood to travel, let alone, leave my laundry behind. But due to my ever-loving hubby's persuasive prowess, I agreed.
So, we packed our day bags and hopped in the car. At first, he (hubby) was bragging how easy and fast it would be for us to get to our destination because of the newly opened express highway (TPLEX). Yeah, the first 30 or so minutes were smooth until we arrived at the exit. Lo and Behold! A queue of cars greeted our arrival. Of course, we thought it was normal because it was a holiday. Maybe a lot of people like us wanted to spend this day on the beach with their families and friends. Although, while we were being entertained by Bruno Mars' 24K album on loop, we noticed that some cars were actually turning around and going to the opposite direction.
To make matters worse, we were re-routed to a "SHORTCUT". It was a very barren and rocky place that somehow reminded me of a desert (I've never been to one though). We were worried that our car's tires and suspension would give up that time. After what seemed to be an endless rocky road, we exited to a much better wider and straighter road. By this time, we have already been traveling for 3 hours, the expected travel time from our house to La Union.
We got hungry along the way. We decided to eat at a roadside canteen where most buses and truck drivers eat at. The food, although simple, was surprisingly delicious. This was by far the best thing that happened to us on this day.
We slowly lost our hope when we realized that it would be impossible for us to reach our goal today. After more than 5 hours of being on the road, we decided to look for a nearby resort just before the sun sets. We went to a fast-food resto and ate dinner there. It wasn't a bad decision for us to go there since my toddler really loves to eat Chinkenjoy. From there, we tried to look for the nearest open resort we could find. Luckily, we found one that was not crowded too. Too bad that I forgot the name of the place. Anyway, it was a new resort and there was not really a lot to see there. Finally, we went to the almost private beach. We played and made sand castles for a few minutes and watched the sun bid its goodbye that day. At the end of the day, we were tired and somehow satisfied. The best thing here is that we got to experience something like this together as a family.
