Container Gardening (an experiment)

When I was young, I had the chance to get hands-on in gardening. Both my parents were gardening enthusiasts and I grew up seeing them tend to different kinds of plants, whether ornamental or agricultural (edible).

Recently, along with my sister and my friends, we decided to be the "Titas" that were are becoming and we ended up getting our hands dirty in the most literal sense. At first, we tried germinating seeds (Ponkan) by using the paper towel method. I do not have the photos of our first experiments but I'm happy to say that most of the seeds that we germinated are now thriving seedlings.

The satisfaction of seeing seeds sprout tiny leaves was incomparable. After this incredible feat we have achieved, we tried germinating other seeds in the same way (apple, calamansi, star apple, and mango). The calamansi was unsuccessful but the apples are now happily planted in small paper cups. We're just afraid that the intense summer heat of the countryside will take their toll soon.

Some plants we also tried to grow were garlic, ginger, sweet potato, tomato and Chinese cabbage. I'm excited to see how our mini garden will look like in a few more weeks. I do hope we can harvest some of our produce soon.

Here are some pictures of the plants we have managed to cultivate. We also now have ornamental plants in our tiny garden.
